    Tampa Bay Scouting expedition

    Hi all,

Well, it was another not-so-hot day on lower tampa bay area on sat 3/6.  I went out and started cruising around pinellas point looking for the school of black drum everyone had been spotting in the area recently.  Sounds like most were 20-30lbs and some topping 50lbs....not too shabby!

I cruised around the sandbar edges trying to see a good water push, or rustle them up from where the might have been posted, but to no avail.  I stopped a few times to wet a line, mainly speckled trout and some sharks were the ones willing to play.  I used live shrimp on 2-0 circle hook, about 2 to 3 feet under popping cork.

On again to cruising for drum, and what do you know...i proptly stuck the boat in 6 inches of water.  Apparently I got too close to the sandbar!

So, now I have to get a little wet, and got out to push.  I was not concerned, but annoyed.  I knew the tide peaked at about 530 or 6pm at +2.6ft that day, so worst case scenario would be watch and wait.  I was fortunate and was able to push the boat off the bar without too much trouble, and was back underway in about 10 minutes, after drying off.

The weather, by the way was probably the best it had been all year.....up until about 330pm, when the 5mph wind from NE, changed to about 15-18mph from NW....talk about annoying!

Anyways, it was a nice day on the water, but not such a nice fishing trip.
