    Beach Snook??

I was just wondering what area or region of Fla were you guys in for the beach Snook episode?  I am looking at a mid summer trip to navarre beach area where y'all went but I also liked the looks of where you fished right near the beaches.  I haven't been to Fla to fish yet so it may be common knowledge down there when and where beach snook fishing is good but i don't have a clue?? Thanks, love the show!

    Re: Beach Snook??

    Barry,

I don't know exactly where Ray and C.A. were for the beach snook episode but I have spent some time in Navarre and never caught a snook that far North. Navarre is great for spot tails, doormats, and sea trout but not so much snook. Even though their official range is from South Texas to South Carolina catching snook a couple hours North of Tampa Bay or Jacksonville is usually a one off. Fishing the inlets and beaches for snook is primarily good from the Space Coast on the East to Tampa Bay on the West. If I fish North of these areas I target spot tails and trout.

If you want to really target snook in an amazing fishery you must try the Everglades National park. In the late fall and winter the snook move into the back country and it's an amazing time. When you find a group of fish you can toss a fly into the school and get hit every time till you've picked apart the school. Then you move 30 yards to the next school. The tarpon, reds and trout are also in the back country that time of year and it can be a lot of fun.

    Re: Beach Snook??

Thanks Jared! I am actually going on a flyfishing trip to Cancun in may so I am trying to take a quick in-and-out kinda trip to Fla during July. I really want to explore the keyes, and Glades and really all of Fla but coming from up here in Western NC (where I am stuck for a few more years) I figure I would hit a northern Fla area, saw navarre and it looked like a good option to bring the flats boat and hook up a cabin. Do you flyfish? I wonder how that would be in Navarre? How did you like fishing it? Reds and trout maybe shark or flounder I love catchin em all! Sounds like a good spot? I really appreciate you help on all this, my email is below maybe we can chat morre in depth about your experience! Thanks

Barry, I don't know if you ever made it to Navarre beach but I grew up there. If you go, try gulf breeze, fl it's about 15 minutes west of Navarre. A little place called deer point real nice flat... Lots of reds, and spec trout! I caught them on doa shrimp, popping corks, mirrolures, and spoons. Goodluck
