    Line Choice

    Good day all,
I have two bait casters that I am about to re-spool.  On one of them I have been using a braid and its worked out well.  So my question is should I load up second one with braid or mono?  Also, which one works best for top water (spoons, plugs) and which one do you use for plastic?

    Thanks,
    Calvin

    Calvin,

I'm a huge fan of braided line and for the longest time I used nothing but braid. Watching FCTV however C.A. and Ray explained the benefits to using mono for plug/treble hook applications. After changing my setup to their recommendations I totally understand why. Braid is a great choice for throwing into cover, single hook or live bait presentations when you need lots of sensitivity. I like it for skipping under docks or mangroves too. If you get snagged with mono and you have to yank it outta cover that lure can come at you like a bat outta hell. When I'm fishing plugs I use mono because of the stretch. When the fish grabs the lure there is a little give so they can take it whereas sometimes with braid it will pull the lure from the fishes mouth. This is really helpful when fishing for big trout with MiroLures. Well that's my two cents.

P.S. Ray told me if I wanna stick with braid for large plugs use a rod with a lighter action. This too will let the fish grab the plug and allow a little play so as not to pull the plug from it's mouth.

Thanks for the information.  Have you used braid with a mono leader so as not to pull out plugs?  I also was told if you loosen the drag it helps in the hook set.
    Thanks,
